Just one episode will give you something to walk away with. Honestly, its a lot to take in, especially if your used to more ‘superficial’ television, but it’s worth it. The show also offers insight to the core inequalities embedded in our society.
Oz offers a real look at life in prison, and gets to the root of where prisoners lives went wrong. The story lines had stuck in my head, even after weeks of not watching. I didn’t feel like I needed momentum to enjoy the show, or even to remember what had happened. I waited weeks in between episode 7 and episode 8 and found everything was just as intense as if I had watched all the episodes one after another. That being said, Oz can be watched at any time. Though this is precisely what makes the show so incredible, it makes watching (or binge-watching) a little too difficult your brain can’t process more than 3 episodes at a time. The episodes have so much detail and hidden messages to pick up on, a 56 minute episode feels like a two hour movie. So why did it take me so long to finish the 8 episode season? Because it is one of the greatest television shows I’ve ever watched. Oz is one of the greatest television shows I’ve ever watched. The finale showcased every aspect of what makes the show so great: graphic imagery, poetic justice, and shocking plot twists. Though it has taken me some time to get to the season 1 finishing line (which I apologize for), the final episode was everything you want in a season finale .
